Location incorrect - how to tell Prey where I really am?

Could you please describe the problem?

After a recent break-in at our home, I searched for security measures to add and found Prey.

I just installed the free version to test it out and it shows my location as being over a mile away across a river!
Apple maps has me pinpointed to my house exactly.

I did some research to see if I could fix this by telling Prey exactly where I am but couldn’t find anything for this. I did, however, find multiple reports of this issue going back over a year.

I always try a product out before supporting it with my money so at the moment, I’m not feeling confident that Prey is of any real use. I hope thats not the case as I’d much rather support an open source product than a large commercial offering but it has to work!

Are you using Ethernet? or are you only connected to wifi? :slight_smile:

I can use either wifi or ethernet

Please try only with Wifi (no ethernet), Prey location works with a wifi triangulation :slight_smile: Try to get the location and let me know if the problem persists!

Hi,

I’ve deleted & reinstalled Prey on WIFI and that seems to have improved it.

Still not as accurate as maps but a lot closer than before.
