I have a Windows 10 laptop. I have had Prey on it for a while, it was fine at first, but then it stopped contacting the servers. I have re-installed it but it still is not contacting servers, though it is fine when I install it. I have tried the command, but the command window does not stay up long enough to put in a command (“normal” command window is fine.
Hi,
I have already sent you a Direct Message
We have similar problems on our Thinkpads running Win10 x64 Pro. Due to the botched MS 1803-1809 updates, we kept getting BSODs. I reset our PCs just keeping (most) personal files. Prey was among a list of apps uninstalled by the reset.
I went to C:\Windows\Prey\prey.conf and added:
Your account’s API key.
api_key = XXXX
…
Your device’s unique key.
device_key = YYYY
For YYYY I used the UUID
Should I have used the MOTHERBOARD SERIAL NUMBER?
Hi @ingber,
The device_key is assigned by prey. To make things easy you can just run the command `C:\Windows\Prey\current\bin\prey config panel -f, that’s gonna open a new browser tab where you have to log in with your credentials and the device is gonna be linked automatically.

Javo
That worked just fine.
Thanks.
